Georgetown PBA Calls Out Repeated Disrespect at Annual Red Poppy Parade

At this year's Annual Red Poppy Parade in Georgetown, members of the Georgetown Police Benevolent Association and the GPD Honor Guard showed up — as they always do — to honor our nation's flag, the state of Texas, and the first responders, veterans, active duty service members, and military families who sacrifice so much for all of us.

What they received in return was disrespect.

According to PBA members, Parade Director and Deputy City Secretary Karen Frost reportedly attempted to push the Honor Guard and the American flag to the back of the parade lineup. At an event specifically built around remembrance, sacrifice, and honor, that decision is not just tone-deaf — it is disgraceful.

A Pattern, Not a Misunderstanding

The Georgetown PBA brought this concern directly to the City Manager, who referred the matter to the City Secretary. However, the City Secretary does not fall under the City Manager's authority — she reports directly to City Council. The referral resolved nothing.
More troubling: this is not the first time this has happened. When the same disrespect occurs year after year, it can no longer be dismissed as a miscommunication or an oversight. It is a pattern — and patterns require accountability.

Standing Together

The Texas Municipal Police Association (TMPA) has formally voiced its support for the Georgetown PBA in this matter.

First responders and military members dedicate their lives to protecting and serving others. They do not deserve to be treated as an inconvenience. They should never be treated as an afterthought — least of all by a representative of the very city they serve and protect.

The Georgetown PBA calls on City Council to address this matter directly and ensure that those who serve are shown the respect they have earned.

Respect the flag. Respect the badge. Respect those who serve.
